Managing Home Page

Managing Home Page

This section of the user guide describes how a site administrator can add, edit, and delete content blocks on the EthosCE home page. The home page is the first thing learners see when they visit your site, so keeping it up to date and well-organized is important for a good user experience.

Note: You must have Site Administrator permissions to manage home page content.

Accessing the Home Page Editor

  1. Log in to your EthosCE site with an administrator account.

  2. Navigate to your site's home page.

  3. Click the Customize this page near the bottom of the page. This will switch the page into edit mode, revealing the content block layout.

Understanding Content Blocks

The EthosCE home page is built using content blocks — modular sections that can be independently added, edited, reordered, or removed. Common block types include:

  • Custom Content Block — Add free-form text, images, or custom HTML content.

  • Course Catalog Block — Display a filtered list of available courses.

  • Banner/Slideshow — Show rotating images or promotional banners.

  • News/Announcements — Display news or updates for learners.

Adding a New Content Block

  1. While in edit mode on the home page, locate the + button in the region where you want to add content (e.g., top, middle, sidebar).

  1. Select the type of block you want to add from the available options.

  1. Fill in the block's settings — such as title, body content, linked courses, or display options.

  2. Click Save to add the block to the page.

  3. The new block will appear on the home page immediately after saving.

Editing an Existing Content Block

  1. While in edit mode, each existing block will display a gear, paintbrush, and trash icon

  2. Click the gear icon on the block you want to modify.

  3. Update the content, settings, or display options as needed.

  4. Click Save to apply your changes.

Tip: Changes to content blocks are applied immediately and are visible to all site visitors. Review your changes after saving to ensure they appear correctly.

Reordering Content Blocks

  1. While in edit mode, most blocks can be repositioned using drag-and-drop.

  2. Click and hold the block's drag handle.

  3. Drag the block to its new position on the page.

  4. Release to drop it in place.

  5. Save or confirm the new layout if prompted.

Deleting a Content Block

  1. While in edit mode, locate the block you want to remove.

  2. Click the Delete or Remove icon (typically a trash can icon) on the block.

  3. Confirm the deletion when prompted.

Warning: Deleting a content block is permanent. The block and all of its configured content will be removed from the home page. If you are unsure, consider disabling or hiding the block instead of deleting it.

Saving and Previewing Your Changes

  • After making edits, always click Save to preserve your changes.

Best Practices

  • Keep it current — Remove outdated announcements and featured courses regularly to maintain a clean, relevant home page.

  • Prioritize key content — Place your most important courses or calls-to-action near the top of the page where learners will see them first.

  • Use clear titles — Block titles and headings should be concise and descriptive so learners can quickly understand what each section contains.

  • Limit clutter — Avoid adding too many blocks. A focused home page with a few clear sections is more effective than one overloaded with content.
