When creating a course, reminders may be created for learners. Reminders will send emails to learners before or after a certain point in the course workflow, at the time and date specified.

Multiple reminders can be set per course, and reminders can be set to repeat.

The base reminder options are listed below. As course objects are added, they will also appear in this list as Completion or Inactivity options.

  • Course completion
  • Course enrollment created - Available in 7.4.4
  • Course enrollment end
  • Course enrollment start
  • Course expiration date
  • Course live end date
  • Course live start date
  • Course start date
  • Specific date

Completion reminder

A completion reminder is triggered when a learner completes a course object.

Inactivity reminder

An inactivity reminder is triggered at the specified period of time after a learner has started, but not completed a course object.

Course enrollment created

Version information

This feature is available in 7.4.4+

An enrollment is created when a user has successfully purchased the course but has not yet clicked the Take Course button on the course landing page.  The course enrollment start does not begin until an enrolled user clicks the Take Course button.  A course enrollment can also be created when a course or site admin enrolls a user manually.

To enable a reminder:

  1. Navigate to the course.
  2. Click "Edit."
  3. Click "Course Settings."
  4. Click the "Reminders" link in the left tab.
  5. Check the "Enabled" checkbox.
  6. Type the number of days, hours or minutes in the "Days," Hours," or "Minutes" field.
  7. Select "Before" or "After" and specify the trigger by making a selection from the dropdown menu.
  8. For reminders to repeat, check the "Repeat" checkbox.
    1. Fill in the repeating increment by typing the number of days, hours or minutes into the "Days," "Hours," or "Minutes" fields in the "Every" section.
    2. Fill in the number of repeating reminders to be sent by typing the number of days, hours or minutes into the "Days," "Hours," or "Minutes" fields in the "For" section.
  9. To send a test to the administrator user, check the "Send test" checkbox.
  10. Type the subject line or leave the default in the “Subject” field.
  11. Type the reminder text into the "Message" field.
    1. Tokens may be used in the reminder text.
  12. Click "Save."

If a new reminder needs to be added, do not update an existing reminder in its entirety, as it will not resend to users. Old reminder emails may be disabled, and a brand new reminder should be enabled in a new reminder field to ensure it sends.
