Begining in 2020, Verizon adopted a new standard for sending messages from applications to persons, via 10 digit numbers in the US. This system is referred to as A2P 10DLC, Application-to-Person (A2P) via 10 digit long codes. In early 2021, additional vendors, such as AT&T adopted the standard, as well. It is expect other large US celluar providers will follow in the coming months.
The purpose of this new standard is to ensure messages from trusted companies are delivered, while improving each carrier's ability to identify unwanted messages being sent through SMS channels. This adoption requires changes to the accounts set up within Twilio for each client by EthosCE.
How does this affect my EthosCE instance?
Our SMS vendor, Twilio, will require that all accounts are registered with them to be assigned a trust score. EthosCE has already been approved as a trusted Independent Software Vendor and may now register our clients as secondary accounts. This is an internal update within our vendor instance, and should have no visible change to end users, both admins and learners, other than improved message delivery performance.
What does registration require?
Registration requires contact information for an authorized individual with an SMS capable phone. This information will only be used by Twilio to reach appropriate personnel in the rare event that their registered number is exhibiting odd sending behavior.
Is there a deadline?
Twilio has informed providers that there is an October 2021 deadline before the procedures are implemented. Though, Twilio has informed us our accounts are not above the threshold likely to see a significant negative impact, we are planning to have all clients accounts updated by this deadline.
Will this affect how I am charged for my SMS services by Ethos?
No. All accounts under EthosCE do not meet the threshold requiring additional charges from our SMS vendor, nor a change in the way EthosCE will send invoices. Your current invoice schedule will remain.
