Deleting Quiz Attempts
This guide is intended for site admins, course admins, and course authors who want to modify a quiz before any learners have taken it. Follow this guide to help you make adjustments to a quiz, ideally only including your own "testing" attempts as the site admin, course admin, or course author.
Editing Options Disabled if Quiz has Attempts
Once a quiz is created and someone (including you) starts it, it will be marked as an attempt. If you need to make changes to the quiz, you'll first have to delete your attempt.
In the image below (Fig 1), you'll notice a message at the top stating, "Some editing options have been disabled because attempts have been made on the quiz. Delete all attempts to make all options available." Also, you'll see that the submit button has been disabled. These signs indicate that there are quiz attempts that need to be cleared.
Deleting End-Users Attempts
If you decide to delete any end-user attempts on a quiz, you'll need to personally notify the learner that their attempt has been removed. Keep in mind that all records of their quiz attempt will be lost too. We generally advise against deleting a quiz once learners have taken it. See the Additional Recommendations at the end, for more information.
Deleting Your Quiz Attempts
Follow the steps below to delete your own (site admin, course admin, course author) attempts on a quiz.

Once the quiz attempts have been deleted, you'll see a confirmation message at the top of the page in a green text box (see Fig 4).
Click on "Manage Questions," and you'll notice the submit button has turned green. Now, you can edit the quiz (see Fig 5).
Additional Recommendations
As mentioned earlier, it’s not a good idea to delete quiz attempts made by real learners, as their data will be lost. Instead, here’s a helpful recommendation for what you can do in the following scenario.
Scenario
A month after creating a quiz, I realized I needed to rephrase one of the questions. However, 50 learners have already taken the quiz, and I don’t want to lose their valuable data by deleting their attempts.
Recommendation
The recommendation would be to hide the faulty quiz from the course outline. You can do this by navigating to the object settings and unchecking the following: enabled, visible in outline, and completion required (see Fig 6). This adjustment will prevent learners from accessing the faulty quiz, but it won't stop them from progressing through the course.
Next, introduce a new quiz object that is visible to the learners,(essentially replacing the hidden faulty quiz). Utilize the question bank to select correctly phrased questions for the new quiz (see Fig 7). Additionally, create a new quiz question to replace the problematic one from the previous quiz. When you save these changes, your learners will encounter the revised version of the quiz.
